Vigorous Growth in 2013 for Engel & Völkers Spain

Engel & Völkers Spain, with 64 shops throughout the Spanish Mainland, Canaries and the Balearics, has reported a 48.5% increase in sales in 2013 over the previous year with total sales of 435.100.680 Euros and total sales commission revenue of 21.732.572 Euros.
Worldwide, Engel & Völkers Group increased its total commission revenues by 18.2 percent to 272.9 million Euros (2012: 230.8 million Euros) in 2013 representing a record year in the 35-year history of the company.
The strong sales growth in Spain demonstrates that investors are coming back into the market as prices have now stabilised following a series of price falls since 2008.

Last year, Engel & Völkers sold a total of 603 properties throughout Spain (318 in the Peninsula, 239 in the Balearics and 46 in the Canaries) with an average sales price of 719.759 Euros. However, in the Balearics, where unprecedented multi-million Euro transactions were made, the average sales price rose to 959.573 Euros. Furthermore, last year E&V Spain recorded average prices increases of 9.6%.
In addition, the Company’s first Metropolitan Market Centre (MMC) was opened in Barcelona in spring 2013. The MMC concept is a city-based flagship “store” from where several hundred employees operate the local markets. This new concept was a central factor contributing to the 48.5% rise in Group commission revenues by Engel & Völkers in Spain over the past year. Future MMC openings are projected in Madrid, New York, London and Moscow.

Says David Scheffler, Director General Spain, commenting on the latest figures: “By spring of last year it was evident that Spain had turned a corner in terms of residential sales for quality property in prime locations and investors could see the market was levelling out. That initial momentum continued throughout the year with a sharp increase in second home acquisitions in national hot spots such as Marbella and the Balearic Islands.

The new “Golden Visa” looks set to open up an interesting new around key Spanish cities and the MMC in Barcelona has already recruited Chinese speaking agents”.

In addition, to the demand for large-scale property portfolios interest in sales of individual properties is also on the rise as investors seek to boost their income once again”.
